First Ever in the 2018 Moraitis Debate Tournament

Six Anatolia debaters traveled to Athens on January 26-27 to participate in the Moraitis School Cup 2018, a debate tournament held every year. The three Anatolia teams took part in four preliminary rounds of debate on Friday evening and Saturday morning on issues such as net neutrality and abortion laws, and competed among 84 teams from various Athenian schools, some of which are international schools with a native-speaking student body, such as Campion and St. Catherine’s. The Anatolia College students who participated in the event were Magda Petmeza, Elli Stogiannou, Christos Koumpotis, Leander Moe, Nikos Zervogiannis, and Anatoli Karapanagiotidou.  All our teams did exceptionally well, but one, in particular, stood out. Magda Petmeza and Elli Stogiannou ranked 1st among 84 teams in the preliminary rounds, went on to the semis, and then the finals, where a panel of 5 judges agreed that they were the best team of the tournament! Congratulations to both for making us proud and for bringing the Moraitis Cup to Anatolia for On December 19th.

Magda Petmeza has been selected to represent Greece in the World Schools Debating Championship which will be held in Croatia. Magda is the only member of the National Team from a non-Athenian high school, which makes her accomplishment even greater.
