The Deutsch Club Trip to Heidelberg

Heidelberg in October gave us beautiful weather in a beautiful city! This year’s excursion was full of exciting sights and sounds. Most strikingly, the city was in full autumn bloom. As Heidelberg is nestled comfortably in a gorgeous river valley, the sight of the autumn leaves up the slopes was nature’s splendor at its best. The trip wasn’t just about the weather or vacation, however! With advisors D. Goula, A. Tsianti, and G. Stefaniuk, we toured through many fascinating museum exhibits where learned much about the history of the city and the region, got hands on experience at a Science and Technology Center, and experienced a sampling of the many beautiful churches and castle ruins in the area. During our day in neighboring Mannheim, we visited the thought provoking Walfdorf School with its progressive educational design. Surprisingly, we also saw the authentic Egyptian mummies and artifacts of the university’s collection, as well as gorillas, elephants and sea lions in the zoo. And don’t get me started on the food!
